Richard Madden is a Scottish actor who rose to prominence for starring as Robb Stark in HBO’s epic fantasy TV series, Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2013. In 2018, he attained praise for starring as a police officer in the thriller, Bodyguard. For his performance, he received a Golden Globe Award.

Madden joined the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland after completing his studies at  Castlehead High School. In 2007, he graduated from the school. While in school, he worked with The Arches and the Glasgow Repertory Company. Additionally, he appeared in the play, Tom Fool, at the Citizens Theatre. A team from Shakespeare’s Globe noticed Madden’s potential after they saw him in the play.

During his senior year at the college, Madden secured the role of Romeo in Romeo and Juliet at the modern Globe Theatre in London. In the same year, he appeared as Callum McGregor in the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Noughts & Crosses from December 2007 to February 2008.

In 2009, he appeared as Mark McNulty in the National Theatre of Scotland production of Be Near Me. For his performance, he received positive reviews from The Daily Telegraph and The Observer. Later, he secured the lead role as Dean McKenzie in BBC’s Hope Springs. Next, he appeared as Ripley in  Chatroom and Kirk Brandon in Worried About the Boy.
