Previously, he worked for KVAL in Eugene, Oregon, as a multimedia journalist and weekend evening weather anchor for nearly 2 years.

Maranon joined the University of Oklahoma’s Gaylord College of Journalism in August 2008 after finishing his high school education. Previously, he worked for KVAL in Eugene, Oregon, as a multimedia journalist and weekend evening weather anchor for nearly 2 years. After graduating from college, he launched his career at KCBY in Coos Bay, Oregon. After working on the Oregon coast for a year, he received a promotion to the main newsroom of KVAL/KMTR as a reporter and main meteorologist for the NBC-affiliate for a brief time.
Over the years, Maranon has received several awards from various professional journalism groups both locally and nationally for everything. For example, he has won awards for severe weather coverage, breaking news, and investigative pieces on things like puzzling hospital treatment prices. He went to Roswell, New Mexico, as the sole Tulsa-based reporter on one of American Airlines’ last MD-80 flights to document the historic day for one of Tulsa’s biggest employers.
Maranon caught the attention of President Donald Trump in 2020 on the tarmac at Tulsa International Airport next to Air Force One. At the time, he yelled questions at the President, receiving a wave, a smile, and a thumbs-up from the President. He is proud to offer historical context to the stories he reports as a native Oklahoman.
