During his career, he has worked on California’s Central Coast, Montana, Mississippi, and most recently, Phoenix. Also, he has received several awards, including a Mark Twain Award from the Associated Press, two Emmys, an RTDNA Edward R. Murrow award, and three Golden Mikes from the RTNA of Southern California.

Carlmark developed a love for the weather after being a surfer and skier for life, trying to learn the best days for waves or powder by forecasting the weather. He has witnessed and encountered nearly all types of weather, from 25 below zero temperatures to 118 degree heat, blizzards, severe storm chasing in the Midwest, and haboobs (violent dust storms).
