Dean joined Onondaga Community College in 2001 when he finished his high school education at Dryden High School. In 2003, he graduated with an Associate Of Arts degree in Electronic Media Communications. He then joined the University of Miami where he graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Communications.

He then relocated to St. Louis in 2008 where he served KSDK for 14 years. While in St. Louis, he broadcasted stories like the World Series and the Stanley Cup.
During his career, Dean has won two Mid-America Emmy Awards and two Missouri Broadcasters Association awards. Some of his most unforgettable assignments include the ruinous 2011 EF5 tornado in Joplin which killed over 150 people, broadcasting the 2016 Rio Olympics from Brazil, and the Ferguson unrest in 2014.
