Sam Perez Biography
Sam Perez is an American journalist working for WBIR as a Nashville-based reporter since she was promoted in April 2026. She joined the station as a weekend morning anchor, weekday traffic anchor, and multiskilled journalist in Knoxville in June 2024. Previously, she worked as a multi-skilled journalist and fill-in anchor for WLTX News19 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Sam Perez Education
Perez joined the University of Georgia in August 2018 after finishing her education at Sayre School. In May 2022, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Spanish, as well as a New Media certificate. While in college, she reported for the university’s TV show, Grady Newsource, and delivered news on the student radio program. She also wrote for the local newspaper, The Red & Black.
Perez was an intern at CNN’s Southeast News Bureau, Spectrum News 13 in Orlando, and Seacrest Studios in Levine Children’s Hospital. Previously, she worked as a multi-skilled journalist and fill-in anchor for WLTX News19 in Columbia, South Carolina. While working in the Scruffy City, Perez covered homelessness in Knoxville, the opioid epidemic, feature stories, and murder lawsuits. She went to western North Carolina with a team to broadcast the immediate devastation and recovery endavors following the historic destruction from Hurricane Helene. Her work with the team helped 10News earn a Regional Murrow Award for their documentary 96 Hours in Asheville.
Before her time in Knocville, Perez broadcast various stories in the Palmetto State, including updates on legislation in the statehouse, USC’s journey to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four in Dallas, and spent 6 weeks covering the the Alex Murdaugh double murder lawsuit.
Perez chiefly worked as a part of the Street Squad team, producing hyper-local stories in Sumter County. In 2024, she received the South Carolina Reporter of the Year STAR Award presented by the SCBA. She found her passion for storytelling as a child growing up not too far away in Lexington, where she competed with her middle school’s speech and debate team.
