Shannon Murray Biography
Shannon Murray is an American journalist working for KDFW FOX 4 as an anchor and reporter on Good Day from 4 to 10 a.m. since she was promoted in January 2023. She joined the station in January 2016 as a reporter and fill-in anchor. Previously, she worked as a fill-in anchor and police beat/general assignment reporter for KVUE, Austin’s ABC affiliate.

Murray joined the University of Texas at Austin in 2006 after finishing her education at Duncanville High School. In 2009, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.
While in college, she interned with a local news station and The Ellen DeGeneres Show in Los Angeles, where she spent one summer. Interning at Ellen showed her that while television can be fun, it takes a lot of work off-screen to make it happen! She also worked as the president of her sorority, Alpha Phi, and was involved with the UT television station, Texas Student Television.

They won the state competition for broadcasting and earned 2nd place in nationals her senior year. Mrs. Nancy Noyes, her teacher, encouraged her to pursue journalism in college, crediting Mrs. Nancy as one of the main reasons she’s still doing it today.
After graduating from college, Murray began her reporting career at KOSA in Midland/Odessa. While in Texas, she learned to do it all, from shooting video, editing, and anchoring to reporting, editing, producing, and occasionally running the teleprompter. She later learned how to run the control board at KCRS Radio, where she was also a fill-in host for a political talk radio show.
Murray moved to Austin, where she spent 3 years as a reporter for KVUE. While in Austin, she primarily covered crime and courts, occasionally spending weeks inside a courtroom on a high-profile case. She also covered events like Longhorn football and the Austin City Limits Music Festival.
Besides her work in TV, Murray is the coach and ambassador for Girls on the Run, a mentorship program that helps 3rd – 5th grade girls build confidence through running. She is also a member of the YMCA Healthy Living Advisory Committee.
