Shannon O’Donnell Biography

Shannon O’Donnell is an American Meteorologist and news anchor working for KOMO4 News as the chief meteorologist. She joined the network’s Forecast team in 2009.

O’Donnell attended Redmond High School where she managed to be a Valedictorian. After high school, she went to the University of  Washington, where she studied meteorology and attained her B.S. in atmospheric sciences. She also spent seven good years at the NOAA as a marine biologist. Lastly, in 1998, she attained her AMS Seal of Approval.

O’Donnell is a Meteorologist who encloses the weather for Western Washington on the weekday evening shows for KOMO4 News & KOMO Newsradio. O’Donnell had worked with other stations prior to joining KOMO News. Previously, she spent seven years working for the San Francisco NBC station, KNTV where she served as the morning meteorologist. While still in Bay Area, she was appealed to guest-anchor quite a lot on the national level at Early Today and MSNBC and she evidently loved working alongside the Today Show’s Al Roker.

O’Donnell nonetheless worked for NWCN and KING from 1995 to 2000, and in 2008 where she served as a meteorologist. She also worked for KOMO and served as the weather producer while still in college, she also gives her thanks to Steve Pool’s reliable lessons for assisting her to make the leap to on-camera work. O’Donnell also worked for the Department of Atmospheric Sciences for famed Professor Robert A. Houze, Jr where she served as the research assistant. Her duties included launching radiosondes (weather balloons) from the decks of NOAA research ships. Flying in P-3 aircraft over the Pacific to gather data designed to improve northwest storm forecasting was also her duty.

Her love and passion for the weather started developing when she was just seven years old. It was even more fueled when Harry Wappler, a famous local forecaster paid her school a visit from that day she decided and made up her mind that she was going to be a meteorologist. She fell in love with everything that has to do with the weather, from the weather talks to the weather experiences.

O’Donnell often stops by the area’s elementary schools with her traveling ‘weatherwise’ presentation, which helps the children understand the weather’s concepts and terms like clouds, lightning, pressure, and precipitation.
