Shaquille Brewster Biography

Shaquille Brewster is an American journalist working for NBC News and MSNBC as a correspondent. He joined NBC in 2014. Previously, Brewster was a campaign embed for NBC News serving as a digital journalist and producer while covering the presidential candidates. 

Shaquille Brewster Education

Brewster sparked an interest in journalism during his high school years. He attended Howard University and graduated Summa cum laude with a degree in Broadcast journalism and political science in December 2013. While at Howard University, Brewster led the student-run campus television network and contributed political pieces to “The Hilltop” newspaper. Additionally, Brewster maintained a blog, “NavigatingPolitics.com,” that he used to simplify and contextualize politics for his peers.

Brewster is a correspondent with NBC News and MSNBC. He began his career in 2011 as a Production Assistant Intern at News 12 Connecticut. In 2012, Brewster became an Intern at NBCNews.com. Brewster joined Hearst Television in 2012 as a Freelance Associate Producer and later became an Associate Producer.  In 2013, Shaquille was a Global News Intern at Associated Press. 

In 2014, he joined NBC News as a Tim Russert Fellow. From 2016-2019, Brewster worked there as a producer. Since 2019, Brewster has been a Political Reporter. In 2016, Brewster covered the 2016 presidential election across all NBC News platforms. Apart from politics, he contributed reporting to national breaking news stories including the Death of Freddie Gray, and the Orlando shooting. 

Two weeks prior to the 2018 election, Brewster was sent out to Indiana to meet with a reporter, but the reporter didn’t arrive. On short notice, he was given the authority to be the reporter on early voting. After reporting that day, NBC asked Brewster to report on-air two weeks straight into the 2018 election. Currently, he is called a “Road Warrior” to cover the 2020 presidential election across television and digital platforms.
