Aside from reporting, Reaves worked as a fill-in anchor in Tampa and Columbus, Ohio. During her time in Columbus, she received an Emmy award for broadcasting a train wreck and explosion. She reported in Louisville, Kentucky for 4 years.

For example, the Association of Women Journalists-Chicago chose her as an Outstanding Woman Journalism Student, Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism granted her the Gary Cummings Award, and the Illinois News Broadcasters Association acknowledged her for her reporting.
