Shiri Spear Biography

Shiri Spear is an American journalist and meteorologist serving as a Morning News meteorologist at Boston 25. She joined WFXT in November 2012.

Spear was the captain of her favorite sport, Volleyball and she also met her loving husband there. After she was done with high school, she studied and graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Later on, after her husband was deployed, she completed her B.A. in Secondary Mathematics Education at Rivier University in Nashua and taught preschool full-time. She did not stick around for long and decided to pursue her passion for weather and forecasting. Shiri also got an M.S. in Atmospheric and Environmental Science from UMass Lowell in 2007.

She works for Boston 25 as a meteorologist and reporter. She has reported on everything from Nor’easters to ice storms to spring flooding and major droughts during her time in the Boston 25 Weather Center so she is familiar with the challenges of forecasting New England weather.

Spear’s career journey began at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She then moved to Camp Lejeune, NC where her husband, a US Marine, was stationed. While in North Carolina, she focused on her education. After her husband was deployed, they moved back to her hometown in New Hampshire where she focused and completed her B.A. in Secondary Mathematics Education at Rivier University in Nashua and taught preschool full time.

Teaching was not fulfilling so she decided to follow her passion for weather and forecasting. She started her forecasting journey at WWLP-TV22 in Springfield, MA where she stayed for about three years. Before joining the Boston 25 news she served as a meteorologist at WTVJ, NBC6, in Miami. prior to moving to Miami, she was a meteorologist and environmental reporter at WWLP-TV22 News, the NBC affiliate in western Massachusetts. She and her team at WTVJ have been Emmy nominated twice for their annual Hurricane Specials. Spears got her CBM accreditation from the American Meteorological Society in 2012.
