Sonia Azad Education

Azad attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. She also attended Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism where she earned a Master of Science degree in Journalism.

In addition, she attended Northwestern University’s prestigious law school where she received a Master of Legal Studies. Not long ago, she found ways to continue learning and growing through workshops like Gong Master Trainings and short courses online: Nutrition Science through Stanford University, and Epidemiology 101 for Journalists through McGill University.

Sonia Azad Career

Previously, she worked at KTRK-TV in Houston where she worked for a period of six years. She also worked at stations in Waco, San Diego, Chicago, and College Station. In addition, while she worked at Washington, D. C, she covered politics and youth in the run-up to the 2008 Presidential election for WAMU.

Internationally, she has covered the International Criminal Tribunal and the International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, Netherlands, and reported on war crimes in Africa and the Balkans. In addition, a number of her memorable global assignments include; the Columbia Space Shuttle disaster for Star Television out of New Delhi, India, and reporting on Iranians and Afghans seeking asylum in Paris.

While working within the country, her assignments have ranged from: the mass theatre shooting in Aurora, Colorado, severe and extreme weather, and political campaigns. In addition, she broke the news of former Houston Mayor Annise Parker’s same-sex marriage from Palm Springs, California.

Not long ago, she covered public health and infectious disease  CoVid-19, Zika, and Ebola, and my coverage; research, medical advancements, nutrition, and spans fitness. In addition, for her half-hour special report entitled Passage to India, she was awarded an Emmy award in 2011. Furthermore, she was named one of the best reporters in the state by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters in 2012. In 2017, she was awarded a series on Egg Freezing by  The Texas Medical Association. In addition, she also enjoys being involved in the community.

She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Halo House Foundation. Azad also works closely with The American Heart Association, The Difference Foundation, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Furthermore, she enjoys workouts such as; barre & yoga, Pilates, indoor cycling, and HIIT-style boot camps. She is also a marathon & half marathon finisher. Sonia is also a certified meditation and yoga instructor.
