Sophie Erber is an American journalist working for KCAU 9 News as an evening anchor since joining the station in July 2020. Previously, she worked for WLUC TV6 in Marquette, Michigan as an anchor and reporter for nearly 6 years.

Erber joined the University of Tampa in 2008 when she finished her high school education. In 2012, she graduated with a Bachelor Of Arts degree in Communications and a Journalism minor. During her time there, she performed in dance concerts and theatrical productions.
Erber worked as a staff writer and photojournalist for the student-run newspaper, The Minaret. Additionally, she worked as an intern for “Taking Action for You” at WFTS ABC Action News-Tampa. In this role, she answered consumers’ calls, researched story leads from the show’s tip line, edited packages, and conducted phone/face-to-face interviews.
WFTS’s internship cemented her desire to focus solely on local news and made her appreciate hard, breaking stories and investigative reporting. In August 2012, ABC employed her as one of its interns when the Republican National Convention came to Tampa. In this role, she did undercover work with their investigative and political teams.
In 2012, she joined the University of South Florida to further her studies. She graduated with a Master Of Arts degree in Communications, Journalism, and Related Programs in 2014. While pursuing her Master’s degree, she worked for the Edward R. Murrow Program for international journalists as a graduate assistant and liaison.
Erber worked as an investigative reporting intern at WFLA NBC NewsChannel8. There, she worked closely with the “8 On Your Side” i-team, wrote scripts, produced her reporter packages, and followed leads. She also helped conduct interviews on the phone and in person.
