Steve Jerve Biography

Steve Jerve is the Chief Meteorologist previously working at WFLA Newschannel 8, CBM. He gave weekday weather forecasts on News Channel 8’s 5, 5:30, 6, and 11 pm newscasts.

He attended the University of Minnesota at Morris where he played basketball and worked his way to a bachelor’s degree in speech. Jerve then went to Jackson State University and Mississippi State University to do extensive graduate study in meteorology.

Jerve got his first job at KAAL-TV in Austin, Minnesota, where he worked as a weather reporter, anchor, photographer, and weekend anchor. Additionally, he extended his talents as an editor and producer. He then went to WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi where he became the main weather anchor.

From there, he went to WFTV in Orlando and took over as the 5 pm weather anchor. In 1992, Jerve was able to experience firsthand the power of tropical storms while covering Hurricane Andrew. Additionally, he covered hurricanes Hugo and Gilbert.

Jerve then moved to KDNL in St. Louis as chief meteorologist. In 1996, he won an Emmy Award for Weathercasting in the Mid-America region. He has earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation and is a full member of the American Meteorological Society. When he is not working, he could be found on a plane, traveling to all corners of the world. He is passionate about World War II history, airplanes, cars, movies, and science.
