Steve Paulson Biography
Steve Paulson is an American meteorologist working for KTVU-FOX 2 news as a weatherman. Prior to joining the station, he was the chief meteorologist at KMGH in Denver.
Steve Paulson Career
Paulson’s specialization in the weather came as serendipity. He actually walked into the KHSL station and told them that he wanted to be an intern, so he met with the news director who asked him if he ever thought about doing the weather. Steve later realized that found out later, the previous Weatherman had turned in his resignation an hour before Steve arrived.
The next thing, Steve was in the library looking up clouds the following week, since there was no internet back then. He spent two years at the station before taking off to KFTY in Santa Rosa. In Santa Rosa that is where Steve learned about Bay Area weather.
Paulson witnessed the El Nino back in 1982-83, after a few years at KFTY he joined KICU-Channel 36 (the original) in San Jose. He served there for a long time before the inevitable happened and the station made cutbacks and eliminated the weather. So he had to transition into an on-air host with the old SportsChannel doing San Jose Sharks hockey in 1993-94.
As much as it was a wonderful run to the Western Conference Finals, he really wanted to get back to the weather which meant he had to start all over again but he has never been one to quit and failure was not an option. He was ready to take the next step and transition back to the weather.
He got a job opportunity at KMST in Monterey where he worked for three years. Some of the highlights were being helicoptered in when all roads in and out of Monterey were flooded during the 1994-95 rainy season. Steve later got the big opportunity when he was called to work at KPIX-Channel 5 in San Francisco which then led to a wonderful weather experience at WBBM-Channel 2 in Chicago.
Paulson was only at WBBM for eight months before he landed a great opportunity as a chief meteorologist in Denver at KMGH. Denver was a really tough place to do weather, dealing with blizzards and tornadoes though it was a great learning experience. After two years and a half, he landed a job opportunity at KTVU.
Paulson is entering his 20th year as the Morning Weatherman for KTVU-FOX 2 News. When he is not working he enjoys exploring new restaurants, hiking, riding his mountain bike, watching classic movies, going to concerts, writing eBooks, and naturally, scanning the sky for clouds.
