He was a junior college Student Councillor as well as a reservist National Service commissioned officer in the Singapore Armed Forces. In 2012, he received the All-Time Favorite Artiste award for being one of the top ten most popular male artists of all time. Tay left Mediacorp in 2018. He shifted his focus to acting in China, where he was most recently filming a Chinese drama in which he plays a spy.

He has also performed live on stage numerous times for events such as National Day and New Year’s Day countdowns and has shared the stage with Taiwanese stars Wu Bai and Harlem Yu. Meet the Giants, a Singapore/China co-production, marked Tay’s feature film directorial debut in 2013.
