Allen was detained at Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport on October 2, 1978, on charges of possession of over 650 grams (1.43 lb) of cocaine. He subsequently pleaded guilty to felony drug trafficking charges and replaced possible life imprisonment with names of other dealers in exchange for a prison term of three to seven years. After serving at the federal correctional institution in Sandstone, Minnesota, for two years and four months, he was paroled on June 12, 1981.
