TY Pennington is an American artist, TV host, author, and former actor, and model. He gained well-known for his appearance on TLC’s home improvement show ‘Trading Spaces and for hosting ‘Extreme Makeover Home Edition’.

Pennington went to Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia where he graduated. He, later on, joined Kennesaw State University, where he majored in art and history. While in college, he took night classes and would work during the day. He often worked in landscaping and later on landed a job in construction. Later on, after graduating, he continued with his studies and specialized in Graphic Design. He then transferred to the Art Institute of Atlanta, where he attained his bachelor’s degree in graphic design.

Pennington also participated in the HGTV show, “Battle on the Beach” whereby he assisted and mentored Wally Remaley and Jacqueline Matoza(business partner). Jaqueline is a real estate investor while her partner Wally is a contractor. During the completion, Pennington would mentor the two business partners into impressing the judges and win a $50,000 cash prize.

Ty Pennington Modeling and Acting Career

Prior to Pennington’s TV career, he was previously a model and an actor. During his final year in his college, a modeling scout reached out to him and that’s how he was introduced to the modeling and acting industry. He was able to be hired by well-known magazines and companies as an advertising model. For instance, he was hired by Sprite, J.Crew, and Swatch and also made some appearances in television spots for Macy’s, Bayer, and Levi’s just to mention a few. He has also managed to travel to all corners of the world due to his modeling career including Germany, Canada, Japan, Thailand, and Italy.

Pennington started his TV career after being in the modeling industry for quite some time. Due to his career as a set designer, he managed to visit other countries including going to Las Vegas back in 1995. He started gaining fame in the TV industry after his innovative hit show, Trading Spaces went viral and every household was in love with the show. In addition to that, he also acted The Adventures of Ociee Nash (as “Wilbur Wright”) an independent film in 2003. That same year, Pennington was selected by ABC to serve as the leader of the eight-person design team of Extreme Makeover Home Edition when the station was developing a show that would rehab the houses of less fortunate families. He was very much committed to the show and spent about 240 days of that year working.

The show(Extreme Makeover Home Edition) ended with its ninth season in 2012. Till the show ended, Pennington had assisted in rebuilding about 200 homes for the show. Later on, he moved from Los Angeles to New York City and started to take part in the lifestyle-based talk show The Revolution. The show was aired on ABC in January 2012 and was a huge success till it was canceled after six months.

HGTV launched Ty Breaker, in January 2021, a show which detailed Pennington assisting less fortunate families that are having a difficult time in making their homes work for their changing lives. On March 8, 2021, he joined the HGTV renovation competition series, Rock The Block, where he was a host for its 2nd season.
