Vanessa Araiza is an American journalist of Mexican descent working for WFTS as a weekend morning anchor and reporter. She joined the station in August 2019. Previously, she worked for WKMG News 6 as a reporter for 3 years.

Araiza works for WFTS as a weekend morning anchor and reporter. She joined the station in August 2019. Previously, she worked for WKMG News 6 as a reporter for 3 years. Hailing from the Ocala area, she didn’t imagine herself being a journalist.
As a matter of fact, she was voted the most shy in her high school band camp. However, interviewing a local reporter while in high school steered her into a journalism career. Her initial job was in Dothan, Alabama. While there, she discovered the significance of the platform she was given.
Hert stories caused a change for people living in risky conditions, held companies responsibly, and ventured with WWII veterans to Washington D.C. During ehr time at WTVY, she received an Associated Press award for Best Specialized Reporter.
Next, she worked in Birmingham, Alabama for 5 years. While there, she broadcasted everything including controversial political runs and a Christmas tornado outbreak. Her broadcast attained an Edward R. Murrow award. In 2019, she came to Florida and worked at WKMG in Orlando.
She described her stint there as her Master’s degree in Journalism. During her time there, she ventured to Puerto Rico thrice following Hurricane Maria where she told stories of thousands of affected people. In 2020, she went to Puerto Rico for 4th time following an earthquake that rocked the unstable island.
She serves EmpowHERment on its board. Actively, she works with the Children’s Cancer Center and the Junior League of Tampa. Araiza worked as a hospice foster for Second Chance Friends during the coronavirus pandemic. While there, she took in an English Bulldog named Addie and a Boxer named Roxie.
