Violeta Yas Biography
Violeta Yas is an American fully bilingual Emmy Award-winning meteorologist and is a member of NBC 4 New York’s Storm Team 4 weather team. Before joining WNBC in March 2022, she was part of Telemundo 62, as chief meteorologist and NBC10 in Philadelphia.

Yas attended Rutgers University, New Brunswick, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism & Media Studies, with a minor in Spanish. Later, she received her Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. In 2010, Yas started her weather career, when she joined AccuWeather as a bilingual broadcaster. She has also appeared on Fox News, Fox Business, ABC World News Now, The Big Ten Network, Fox Sports, several Telemundo and Univision affiliates, ZBM-TV (Bermunda), and various other Spanish networks across Latin America. Yas moved to Philadelphia in 2014 to launch Noticieri Telemundo62 at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Currently, she is Philadelphia’s only Spanish-speaking local TV meteorologist. In January of 2014, Yas joined the Telemundo62 team, and has been nominated for 4 regional Emmys as ‘Best Weather Anchor’ and has also won 4 Emmy awards.
She was then picked as one of PhillyMan Magazine’s Women of the Year for her philanthropic efforts in 2018. As an active member of the community, she is a lead broadcast ambassador for the American Meteorological Society’s Committee for Hispanic and Latinx Advancement. Through this position, Yas leads a team of broadcast meteorologists from across the country in identifying, planning, and generating tangible weather resources for the Spanish-speaking community. She joined WNBC in March 2022.
