Wayne Hart is an American meteorologist working for WEHT/WTVW as the chief meteorologist for WEHT. His forecasts appear on weekdays on WEHT-Local at 4, 5, 6, & 10 p.m. and on Local-7 at 6:30 & 9 p.m. He joined the station in September 1993 and has served the station for more than 3 decades. Previously, he worked for CNN as a freelance meteorologist.

Hart joined Cornell University in September 1980 when he finished his high school education. In May 1984, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology. During college, he decided to give a TV and began his TV career in Ithaca, New York at WICB. While in high school, he was active in high school theater.

Hart has served the station for more than 3 decades and has worked on TV as a meteorologist for more than 33 years. In 2006, he was the initial Tri-State meteorologist and 34th meteorologist in the nation to receive the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation from the American Meteorological Society (AMS).

Hart worked on the board of the AMS Broadcast Meteorology in 2005 and 2006. In this role, he evaluated candidates for the AMS Seal of Approval & CBM certifications. Since 1987, he has held the AMS Television Seal of Approval. He also works as a member of the National Weather Association.

Hart developed an interest in the weather when he was growing up in Glenolden in the 1970s. After graduating college, WGRZ employed him as its weekend meteorologist and science reporter. He then moved to Ohio Valley in 1987 where he worked at WLKY in Louisville.

At WLKY, he helped in the debut of the station’s morning newscast. In 1993, he moved down the Ohio River to work as the chief meteorologist for NEWS 25. Simultaneously, he did some on-air freelance work for CNN in 1994.

Away from broadcasting, Hart has annually visited many schools and civic firms all over the Tri-State. In this role, he discussed harsh weather safety and storm tracking. He also actively participates in the Eyewitness News telethons for the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center and Santa Clothes Club.

Hart works as an emcee for the Cardinal Chapter of the American Red Cross & the Riverbend Academy. He also served the Eyewitness News/Papa John’s Fan Club as the local spokesperson. He is a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Indiana Landmarks.

Hart has received various awards for his work including a nomination for an Emmy for live warning broadcasting of the November 6th, 2005 F3 tornado. For his work warning residents of the April 2002 F3 tornado, he won the Certificate of Special U.S. Congressional Recognition, Honorary Citizen of the City of Providence Award, Webster County Proclamation, and Citation from the Kentucky House of Representatives.

In 1998, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences gave him an Emmy award for producing “First Warning to Severe Weather.” For his work during the November 15th, 2005 F4 tornado, he won an Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels & Hopkins County Sheriff Certificate of Appreciation.

In 2006, the National Weather Service recognized him with the Mark Trail Award for his efforts to boost the use of NOAA Weather Radio. In 2014 and 2019, he won the Evansville Courier & Press Readers Choice Platinum Award. He won Gold Awards for Best Local Television Personality in 2016, 2013, 2012, 2007, and 2006.
