Russ Spencer Biography
Russ Spencer is an American News Anchor working for FOX 5 Atlanta since joining the station in 1995. He anchors the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on FOX 5. Spencer graduated from Princeton University with a degree in English literature.

Spencer started his TV career in Pennsylvania. He as well worked in North Carolina and Denver before making Atlanta home. Spencer took a break from television to teach school and work as a freelance journalist in Central America in the late 1980s. Russ became fluent in Spanish with the intention of becoming a foreign correspondent.
In 1990, Spencer was in Central America to report on the historic vote overthrowing the Sandinistas in Nicaragua. Russ has as well reported from the Middle East – briefly. He has been awarded 13 Regional Emmy Awards during his time in Atlanta, including seven for Best Newscast and three for Best Anchor.

Russ is the son of Russell B. Spencer, Jr. of Malvern and Clare. His parents met at DuPont Company where his dad first worked and later got married in 1958. His father died on 18 September 2016 at his home at the age of 90. He died after a brave battle with leukemia.
Spencer said that his dad was in good spirits until the end, full of faith, and surrounded by the people who love him. His grandparents were Russ Sr. and Blanche who had built a home at the end of Poplar Avenue on what is now Radnor Street Road in 1925, a year before Spencer’s father (Russell B. Spencer, Jr.) was born. He has a sister named Susan who is married to Eric. Through Susan, Spencer has two nieces Julia and Sophia.
