Jon Swaner is an American journalist working for WTHI as an anchor on News 10 This Morning and News 10 at Midday. He joined the station in April 2013 and has served the station for more than a decade. Previously, he worked for WTWO as a weekend anchor and a reporter for over a decade.

Swaner joined Indiana State University in 1993 when he finished his high school education. In 1998, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Telecommunications. During college, he anchored news and sports for WISU-FM. He also did play-by-play for ISU men’s basketball and baseball.

Swaner is one of the most experienced journalists in the Terre Haute market, having worked for over 2 and a half decades in the industry. During this time, he has worked with some major names in local media like Barry Kent, Mark Allen, and Mark Jaynes.
Swaner has covered some of the biggest stories during his career including the Orville Lynn Majors lawsuit, the 9-11 attacks, Timothy McVeigh’s execution, and the devotion of St. Mother Theodore Guerin. Recently, he delivered an exclusive broadcast from the Indiana Statehouse and the bill that eventually brought a casino to Terre Haute.
Swaner particularly specializes in broadcasting stories on criminal justice, travel, crime, and local governments. He was an adjunct faculty member of the Communication Department at Indiana State University where he shared his passion for journalism, communication, and reporting.

From the fall of 1998 to 2011, Swaner taught at Indiana State University. He thinks that this is his way of giving back to the university. Aside from journalism, he calls high school sports on local radio and is the team’s public address announcer at Terre Haute Rex games. He enjoys working as an MC for non-profit occasions. For a long time, he has been an MC of “Soup Bowl,” which boosts Terre Haute Catholic Charities.
