Ken Weathers is an American meteorologist working for WATE as the chief meteorologist since he was promoted in 2022. He rejoined the station in 2006 as a meteorologist, having worked here from 1992 to 1997. Before returning to WATE, he spent 4 years at The Weather Channel.
Ken Weathers Education
Weathers joined the University of North Carolina-Asheville in 1988 after finishing his high school education. In 1992, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Atmospheric Sciences/Specialization in Weather Forecasting. While in college, he was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity.

Weathers has worked for WATE as the chief meteorologist since he was promoted in 2022. Upon joining the station, he initially worked as a meteorogist. This is his second time at the station, having worked here from 1992 to 1997. Before returning to WATE, he spent 4 years at The Weather Channel.
Weathers worked as a broadcast meteorologist in Raleigh, Winston-Salem, and Knoxville from 2000 to 2002 before his tenure at The Weather Channel. He also spent 3 years as a meteorologist at KOCO in Oklahoma City.
Over the course of his career, Weathers has received several awards, including the Associated Press Broadcast Meteorologist of the Year and the humanitarian award from the Governor of Oklahoma for broadcasting of the May 3, 1999 tornado super-outbreak. He has also earned 2 Southeast Region Emmy nominations for severe weather broadcasts.
Weathers holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal from the American Meteorological Society, which honors broadcast meteorologists who meet established criteria for scientific proficiency and effective communication skills in their weather presentations.
Weathers has the National Weather Association’s Broadcasting Seal of Approval for meteorological competency and clear delivery of weather information. He enjoys local news since it allows him to meet the people of East Tennessee and keep them safe during severe weather
