Zach Gilday Biography

Zach Gilday is an American meteorologist working for WATE as a meteorologist since joining the station in September 2025. Previously, he worked as a weekday morning meteorologist at KNWA-TV and Fox 24 News in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for 3 years.

Zach Gilday Education

Gilday joined Western Connecticut State University in 2014 after finishing his high school education. In 2018, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology/Minor in Mathematics.

While in college, Gilday was a meteorology/physics tutor and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. He also learned everything, including how to solve differential equations and deliver an effective weather forecast. Moreover, he represented the Meteorology program in the Dean’s Circle for two years.

Gilday interned at Fox 61 in Hartford, Connecticut. There, he gained experience observing and helping the weather team cover numerous Nor’easter snowstorms in the winter and spring of 2018. He was also present during the severe weather outbreak on May 15, 2018, where 2 tornadoes made landfall in New Haven County.

Gilday works for WATE as a meteorologist. Previously, he worked as a weekday morning meteorologist at KNWA-TV and Fox 24 News in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for 3 years. He also worked as the weekday morning and noon meteorologist at KTAB in Abilene, Texas.

While in Texas, Gilday broadcast numerous events, including tornadoes and winter storms. On May 18, 2019, he helped broadcast an EF-2 tornado that was only 7 blocks away from the TV station’s location. He also covered the destructive Texas Freeze in February 2021.

Gilday developed a passion for the weather after finishing a chapter on Meteorology in his sixth-grade science class at William J Johnston Middle School. Experiencing Hurricane Irene in August of 2011 also instilled his passion and humbled him with awe at the power of Mother Nature.

Gilday enjoys local news because he feels rewarded when he keeps everyone safe during severe weather events. He also loves being part of the community and getting to meet new people from the area.
