Benigni serves as the Sports Director and fill-in news anchor at WGRZ-TV in Buffalo, New York. He anchors the evening sportscasts from Sunday to Thursday. He has managed to enclose several stories that have hit the headlines all across the USA and beyond including the NFL, a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1999, the Bills, and the Sabres’ numerous playoff runs.
He worked for WSTM-TV, the NBC affiliate in Syracuse where he served as a sports reporter and anchor for about five years. Prior to that, he worked for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League where he served as a radio color commentator during his time in Central New York.
Benigni has also managed to win quite a number of awards and honors ever since he started his journalism career. For instance, he was awarded two Edward R. Murrow regional awards for sports reporting, and four Emmy nominations. He was also awarded with an Associated Press first-place award for his coverage of the Sabres’ season-opening trip to Europe in 2011.
He went to Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1991. Whenever he is not working, he enjoys spending his free time with his family and friends. He is also active on his social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter.
