Andrew Gorton Biography
Andrew Gorton is an American meteorologist working for WTOC as a meteorologist on The News at Daybreak every Monday through Friday. He joined the station in May 2018 after working in Albany, Georgia at WALB as a meteorologist and multimedia journalist for more than two years.

Gorton joined the University of Oklahoma in 2011 when he finished his high school education at Rowlett High School in Dallas, Texas. In 2015, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Meteorology and Broadcast Journalism. There, he worked as an on-air meteorologist and reporter for OU Daily, OU Nightly, and Purcell Register. Next, he joined Mississippi State University where he received a Broadcast Meteorology Certification in 2019.

There, he experienced his first tornado and was hooked on the weather. The radio meteorologist led his family to safety thus igniting Gorton’s passion to understand weather so that he could help others during severe weather situations.
When he was 16, Gorton earned storm chasing certification from NOAA and the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service granted him a certification in Advanced Radar Interpretation. His passion for weather continued in high school where he covered live weathercasts to 3,000 students and staff each week.
While living in Oklahoma, he put his storm spotter certification to use pursuing several tornadoes to keep the community ahead of looming bad weather. In 2018, the Associated Press granted him the First Place Award in Best General Reporting after he flew with the NOAA Hurricane Hunters. Also, he won Connect Savannah’s 2021 “Best Local TV Meteorologist.”
