Ann McGill is an American journalist working for WCSC as a main anchor at Live 5 News, where she co-anchors the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts. She joined the Live 5 News team in October 2001 and has served the station for over 2 decades.

McGill has worked in the news industry in television and radio for over 35 years. During this time, she served WGHP in Greensboro-High Point from 1994 to 2001, WTQR-WSJS Radio in Winston-Salem from 1991 to 1994, WDXZ Radio in Mt Pleasant from 1989 to 1991, and WCOS Radio Columbia from 1987 to 1989.
McGill’s most interesting assignment was broadcasting Oprah Winfrey and Prince Charles in Charleston after Hurricane Hugo. Her news experience has also earned her fun appearances on TV shows such as “The Doctors,” “American Idol,” and “The Wendy Williams Show.”
McGill’s most interesting interview was that of a man whose face was ripped off during a tree-cutting accident. Despite almost dying, he was more concerned about that being the last thing his wife remembered him for, instead of his own life. His love for his wife deeply moved her. Fortunately, doctors successfully reconstructed his face, and his recovery went well. She loves the Lowcountry because her family and friends are close by, Southern hospitality, and great food.

During her career, McGill has won several awards, including the 2021 South Carolina Broadcasters Association Award of Merit and Anchor of the Year. In 2017, she won a nomination for the Southeast Emmy Best Morning Newscast Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She won a 2nd Place Medical/Health Report from the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas in 2016.
In 2005, McGill won the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs Consumer Spirit Award. Further, he won a 2nd lace Best Newscast Award from the South Carolina Associated Press Broadcasters in 2002. In 2001, he won the SC Associated Press Best Newscast Award.
The South Carolina House of Representatives gave her the 2022 Service Resolution Award. That same year, he won the Women’s History Month Honoree from the University of South Carolina Alumni Association. The previous year, he won the Tri-County Women’s Project, Inc. Excellence in Broadcasting Award.
In 2019, the SC National Action Network gave her the Broadcasting Triumph Award. The Williamsburg County School District inducted her into its Hall of Fame in 2013. He won the Charleston Trident Urban League Community Service Award in 2010, Charleston Black Expo Best News Anchor Award in 2010 and 2011, and the Moja Arts Festival Outstanding Community Service Award in 2009.
