Ashley Gann Biography

Ashley Gann is an American Meteorologist working with CBS42 News where she serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist since May 2018 when she took over this role. Gann forecasts the weather every weekday at 5, 6, and 10. She, however, joined the CBS42 Storm Team in the spring of 2015 when she was serving the station as a morning meteorologist.

Gann attended Auburn University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. Later on, she studied at Mississippi State University where she earned a Master’s degree in Geosciences, specializing in both broadcast and operational meteorology.

Gann works with CBS42 Storm Team where she serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist. While there, she was anchoring the weather news on CBS42 Morning News with Art Franklin a role she undertook until May 28th 20218. She now airs the CBS42 News at 5, 6, and 10 every weekday in her new role as CBS42 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist.

While she was in Mississippi, she worked as a research assistant to the state’s Climatologist and her research spanned topics like: “Economic impacts weather has on industry” and Dissecting the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale as it relates to coastal damage.” Her love for the weather began when she was still very young in Birmingham. It began at Discovery Place(the precursor to the McWane Center.” Then, when her love for being a meteorologist hit her, she was about five years old. After that, my fascination for the weather began.

She spent her childhood years in Fort Worth, Texas where she had many up-close encounters with extreme weather from hail storms to tornadoes. Gann is also a Storm Spotter certified by the National Weather Service and has taken her training out the great plains and across the southeast as a storm chaser. She stresses that this was done safely for the purpose of education and with the highest respect for mother nature.

Prior to CBS42 News, she was working as a Chief Meteorologist for Alabama News Network(CBS*ABC affiliates) in Montgomery, Alabama. Prior to her role as chief, she was delivering the weather 11Alive(WXIA) in Atlanta, CBS8(WAKA) in Montgomery, and WTOK in Meridian, Mississippi. Asides from that, she sharpened her forecasting skills at KLKN in Lincoln, Nebraska, and WSAV out of Savannah, GA.

Her most memorable on-air moment can be summed up in one date “April 27th” when she and her weather team provided non-stop coverage of a tornado for central and south Alabama. This event changed the lives of Alabamians and how they respond to severe weather. It has always been Ashley’s goal to continue educating the public on severe weather, threats, and how they can make life-saving decisions.

Away from work, she enjoys cooking with her husband and playing with her two babies. Additionally, for her, football is a must during the fall, and sweet tea & sunshine make everything better. She was an active member of the Boys and Girls Club of the River Region. This was in addition to being involved in Montgomery’s Young Professional group, EMERGE, and being a board member for the Lighthouse Counseling Center. She is very excited about getting plunged into Birmingham and serving the community.
