Ashly Elam is an American Anchor/Reporter working with KBMT 12News in Beaumont, Texas, as the sports director specializing in anchoring and reporting sports. She has been working with the station since February 2019.
Ashly Elam Career
Elam works with KBMT 12 News where he serves the station as a Sports Director. He attended Port Neches-Groves High School and Lamar University, where he majored in communication. Ashly joined the 12News team after working for a Southeast Texas sports magazine and website for over a year and a half. He previously worked at 12News from 1999 to May 2017, and when he left, he was also a sports anchor.
Elam knew from a young age that he wanted to work in professional sports, either as a player or as a journalist. When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up for an elementary school project, Elam stated he wanted to “play for the Houston Astros or become a sports anchor.”
Elam has been covering sports in Southeast Texas since 1999, starting with an internship that turned into a full-time job when he was 19 years old. Ashly previously worked for 12News and was named Southeast Texas Coaches Association Media Person of the Year, Port Arthur News’ Best Sports Anchor, and Best Sportscast in the Press Club of Southeast Texas’ annual contest.
During his time at 12News, Elam covered the Super Bowl, the MLB Playoffs All-Star Game and spring training, the NBA All-Star Game, and the NCAA Basketball and Baseball Tournaments. While Elam has always enjoyed covering professional sports, his true love is covering Southeast Texas high schools.
Elam was appointed as the thirteenth member of the “Built Ford Tough Player of the Week advisory board” in 2018. His board responsibilities include voting for the Players of the Week for the entire state of Texas, including private schools and schools up to Class 6A. Uniforms, sports logos, and flags are among Elam’s more unusual interests.
