Barbara Gibbs Biography

Barbara Gibbs is an American News Anchor currently working for ABC11 since 2001. She co-anchors the noon and morning newscasts along with Amber Rupinta, Don Schwenneker, ABC11 AccuWeather Meteorologist, and John Clark, Eyewitness News Anchor. She has worked in the industry of journalism for more than 10 years.

Barbara Gibbs Career

Previously, she was at WSLS-TV (Roanoke, Virginia), working as an anchor of the 6 & 11 pm news. Prior to that, she was at WTVQ (Lexington, KY), working as the morning reporter/anchor.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism (PR) with a sociology minor. She obtained her degree at the Auburn University, where her whole family, attended.

Gibbs has worked at WTVD-TV ABC11 Eyewitness News in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, as a Noon/Morning Anchor for a few years. She has covered all kinds of news. Her most moving memories include traveling to New York City with a Durham breast cancer survivor to see Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America.” Also, she had the privilege of sharing a soldier’s story: local homebuilders built a house for a triple amputee Iraq war soldier and his wife for free. In addition to that, she met a young mother with cystic fibrosis who had a double-lung transplant and survived giving birth.

Gibbs is a volunteer of raising money for research on pediatric cancer in the community. She also participates every year in the “Jimmy V Jr Celebrity Golf Classic” with young talented local golfers. In addition, she has taken part in a number of charitable fundraising events: the Muscular Dystrophy Association(MDA), Building Together Ministries, and the American Cancer Society.

Gibbs’s passion is telling stories about the positive power of the human spirit. Gibbs received an Emmy for “Homeless Singers,” a story about three homeless guys in Raleigh who want to be gospel singers, from the Nashville Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2008. She was also nominated for an Emmy for a second feature, “Barbara Gibbs’ Little Valentine,” about a small boy from Spring Lake, North Carolina, who on Valentine’s Day, touched her heart.

During her leisure, she loves spending time with her family and friends, as well as traveling. She also enjoys playing for “WAR EAGLE”, a college football team.

Gibbs enjoys college football (WAR EAGLE), traveling, and going home to be with family and friends. She lives in Raleigh with her Maltese, Sophie.
