Basil attended Iona Preparatory School, where he competed in speech and debate competitions, which sparked his interest in public speaking. Basil’s passion for telling stories led him to Stony Brook University’s Journalism School on Long Island, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a focus on public affairs and a minor in political science. Basil learned the ins and outs of journalism at Stony Brook and was given numerous opportunities. During that time, he interned in the broadcast marketing department of CBS News in New York.

Basil began his career as a reporter and anchor for WWAY News in Wilmington, North Carolina, in February 2017, where he covered stories such as the chemical GenX in drinking water and Hurricane Florence. Basil began working as a morning reporter and fill-in anchor for WRIC Channel 8 News in Richmond, Virginia in November of 2019. He covered breaking news almost every morning and reported on the Governor Ralph Northam blackface scandal as well as the Richmond Gun Rights rally. In Washington, Basil uses his experience in community journalism to tell stories that are important to the people who are affected. Basil spends his free time singing, gaming, and training his parrot, Laddu.
KXMC-TV, virtual and VHF digital channel 13, is a CBS/CW+-affiliated television station licensed to Minot, North Dakota. Nexstar Media Group owns the station. The studios of KXMC-TV are located in Minot at the intersection of 2nd Street SE and 18th Avenue SE, and the transmitter is near South Prairie. Williston’s KXMD-TV (channel 11) broadcasts KXMC, while Dickinson’s KXMA-DT2 (channel 2.2) broadcasts KXMB. In terms of ratings, the four stations are treated as a single entity.
