Before Columbus, he worked in Indianapolis at WISH as an investigative reporter and fill-in anchor. For a decade, he reported and anchored the news in Kentucky at both WDRB-TV in Louisville and WTVQ-TV in Lexington.
Haeberle holds pride in his investigative stories that created a change. As a result of his reporting on the abuse of Ohio children in congregate care establishments caused an increase in inspections. Later, it led to the shutdown of one troubled facility. His work has been mentioned by child advocates during a national campaign. Congress regarded his report as the foundation when making legislation that would broaden protections to those in care.
Haeberle uncovered the state’s failure to efficiently trace ex-prisoners even though they wore GPS monitors through his report about the neglect within the Ohio parole system. The report prompted the creation of a governor’s task force to examine the faults. Also, state legislators altered state law to develop stricter conviction procedures for people sentenced to violent crimes.
During his career, he has received several awards including two National Headliner Awards, a regional Edward R. Murrow award, and multiple regional Emmys. He served alongside a team that won a National Edward R. Murrow Spot News Award for broadcasting about a commercial plane wreck.
