Bill Kelly Biography
Bill Kelly is an American Emmy Award-Winning meteorologist who is working for WJLA serving as a Chief Meteorologist. He joined the station in October 2017.

Kelly attended California State University, Sacramento where he attained his degree in Broadcast News Communications. He completed the respected two-year Broadcast Meteorology program at Mississippi State University.

Kelly is on-air during the weekdays at 5, 6, and 11 p.m. on ABC7, and at 10 pm on WJLA 24/7 News. He is most well known for his segments “Weather on the Go” where he turns the whole golf course green into his weather “green screen,” scales up into his forecast map shown on a giant green climbing wall and even paddles in front of a makeshift weather wall in a kayak.
Kelly has also managed to win several awards due to his skills and experience as a meteorologist and journalist. The awards include 11 Emmy awards, including the Emmy win for Best Weather Anchor right here in the National Capital/Chesapeake Bay region two years in a row. He also won a regional Edward R. Murrow award for technological innovation and was voted Best Weathercaster in both Columbus Monthly and Phoenix Magazine. Kelly nonetheless won five AP awards for Best Weather Anchor and was honored to receive the award.
Kelly has a well-equipped and fully functioning studio at home with chromakey walls, as well as outdoor live areas which utilize augmented reality graphics. He had also worked for other stations prior to joining WJLA. For instance, he worked as a Chief Meteorologist for stations in Columbus, OH, Phoenix, AZ, and Spokane, WA. He also spent some time working for stations in Medford, OR, Sacramento, CA, Eureka, CA, and Medford, OR. He is also a proud member of the National Weather Association for almost 20 years.
Kelly has also been able to make guest appearances 12 times on ABC’s Good Morning America and four times on the network’s World News Tonight. He is also very active on his social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
