Bill Walsh Biography
Bill Walsh is an American meteorologist working for WCSC as the chief meteorologist. He joined the station in June 1993 and has served the station for over 3 decades.
Bill Walsh Education
Walsh joined Emerson College in Boston in 1980 after finishing his high school education. In 1986, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications. He also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Lyndon State College.
Walsh received his Master’s degree in Military Operational Art and Science/National Security Studies from the United States Air Force Air University in December 2010. He is pursuing a Masters Degree in Meteorology/Atmospheric Sciences.

Walsh has worked for WCSC as the chief meteorologist for over 2 decades. He loves the Lowcountry for its people and the mild weather. Previously, he worked as the chief meteorologist for WCIV for 6 years, was a staff meteorologist for 2 years for WLNE-TV 6 in Providence, and a staff meteorologist for Rollins New England Cable NEWSVISION 2 for 1 and a1/2 years. He also worked as a public affairs officer and weather officer for the U.S. Navy Reserve.
Some of Walsh’s most interesting assignments include Hurricane Hugo, naval deployment to Bulgaria, going on a news assignment to South America, Israel, and Italy, hurricanes in general, as well as Air Force deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Besides his work on screen, Walsh has been involved with the army, working as the Lt. Colonel USAF Reserve for the United States Special Operations Command. He also contributed to The Weather Channel and CBS This Morning. Moreover, he authored the novels The Umbrella Option and Red Carpet Ransom. Additionally, he is a United States Coast Guard and a Licensed Boat Captain.
During his career, Walsh has received several awards, including 2 Emmy Awards, 5 Telly Awards, and the Associated Press Best Weathercaster Award. Additionally, he is a certified meteorologist with the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association Certification and their seals of approval.
Walsh has won military awards like the US Air Force Air Force Achievement Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Medal, the U.S. Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the US Air Force Air Force Commendation Medal, the US Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as 2 US Air Force Meritorious Service Medals.
Walsh was involved with the U.S. Air Force Reserve, the U.S. Special Operations Command, and the U.S. Navy from 1993 to 2017. During this time, he held the ranks of Lt. Colonel, 315th Airlift Wing, and Charleston AFB, SC. Additionally, he sits on the executive board of the Ronald McDonald House Charities and is involved with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, Project Impact (Community Hurricane Planning), Veteran’s Hospital, Live 5 Weather Class in the schools, Datastreme; Teacher Educational Project, Kids’ Fair, Civil Air Patrol, and US Naval Reserve.
