Donaldson serves WTTV CBS4 as an anchor at 5, 6, and 11 p.m. on CBS4. He has been at the center of broadcasting in Central Indiana for over 30 years. His career started when he worked for KOMU in Columbia as as an assignment editor, a city government reporter, and a weekend anchor at 6 and 10 p.m. Then, he relocated to Beaumont, Texas where he worked at KFDM as a reporter for two years. Next, he served KTVY in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
While working for KTVY, he won a first-place award for Spot News Reporting from Sigma Delta Chi in 1985. In 1987, his journalism journey led him to KUTV in Salt Lake City, Utah where he worked as an Environmental Reporter and Special Projects Reporter. He worked there for two years before moving to Oklahoma City where he started as a weekend anchor. While in Oklahoma, he received a UPI Tri-State Individual Reporting Achievement Award.
Donaldson then worked at KARK in Little Rock, Arkansas as a Monday through Friday anchor. In 1991, he received the chance to serve as the lead anchor in Indianapolis at WXIN FOX59, when the station started its award-winning newscast, FOX59 News at 10. This was after an extensive nationwide search. Both in 1992 and in 1994, his efforts helped make WXIN, “Fox Station of the Year.”
Besides his work on the anchor desk at FOX59, he produced Emmy award-winning special reports and documentaries during his long career there. At FOX59, he launched the highly-rated launch of FOX59 News First at Four, which led to the station’s expansion at 5 pm, 6 pm, and 7 pm. Also, he served for a brief stint as FOX59 Interim News Director and until recently, served as the newsroom’s Managing Editor.
In 2015, his journey in Indianapolis took an unexpected turn, when CBS Affiliate Programming moved from WISH to WXIN sister station, WTTV. In 2018, CBS4 Indy’s 11 pm received an Emmy award for Best Newscast just two years after its launch. Most recently, his contributions to CBS4 helped the station achieve more recognition with the Emmy Award for Outstanding Overall Excellence in 2021 and News Excellence in 2022.
Donaldson has received recognition for his volunteer work with groups such as College Mentors for Kids, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Habitat for Humanity and the Children’s Bureau, and the Centre for Leadership Development. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Indianapolis Chapter of the National Kidney Foundation. Most recently, he was inducted into the Silver Circle by NATAS in recognition of his distinguished service within the television industry.
