Brent Watts Biography
Brent Watts is an American meteorologist working for WDBJ as the chief meteorologist since 2004. Before that role, he served the station as a meteorologist and digital content from May 2003 to October 2015. He joined the station in 1997 working behind the scenes as a news photographer and editor.
Brent Watts Education
Watts joined Old Dominion University when he finished his high school education. He later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications. He completed the Broadcast Meteorology Program at Mississippi State University.

Since joining WDBJ, he has been on duty during some of the area’s most incredible weather occasions, including flooding from tropical storms, tornado outbreaks(2004, 2011, 2016, and 2018), and the 2012 Derecho. His interest in predicting harsh weather started in the 4th grade. At the time, he saw the Flood of 85 which nearly put Buchanan, his hometown, underwater.
Watts holds the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval (AMS) and has won three Emmys for his work on documentaries on the Flood of 1985, Hurricane Michael, and the 2012 Derecho. Aside from forecasting, he visits schools and groups to share his passion for weather and protecting the environment.
