Brett Funke Biography

Brett Funke is an American former photographer and senior Drone pilot for KTIV. He joined KTIV in August 2017, and later in August 2021, he left the station. He works as the president of Sioux City Bandits – he began as a Director of Marketing. He is a co-founder of Siouxland Breakers (April 2020).

Brett and his father have gone on many exciting bus trips across the country to see Major League Baseball games. He has been involved in sports for as long as he can remember and his favorite being football, which he played semi-professionally with the Iowa Sharks for three years.

A Carroll television producer began a program with a group of students at his school in his sophomore year of high school, teaching them how to shoot videos and edit stories. Brett was hooked on being behind the camera at this point, and with the help of his loving mother and stepfather, he was able to buy his first professional camera.

He never stopped learning about cameras and went on to study Independent Filmmaking at Western Iowa Tech Community College.

Funke had the wonderful opportunity to work on a film called The Midnight Swim, which can be found on Netflix, with a fantastic group of filmmakers from Los Angeles. Knowing that filmmaking would not be a full-time job in Iowa, he began looking for a job that would allow him to work behind the camera, and he eventually landed a position as a production assistant at another news station.

He worked as a production assistant, director, and then producer for almost three years in the television industry. After a year of producing, Funke realized he missed being behind the camera and moved to KTIV News to work as a photographer. Furthermore, he was also an FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone Pilot for KTIV News 4 and used the SkyLink 4 Drone to bring you a unique perspective on news stories.
