Matt Breen Biography
Matt Breen is an American reporter and anchor working at KTIV news where he serves as a weekday evening anchor at 4 pm, 5 pm, 6 pm, and 10 pm, and as the senior political reporter a position he took up in January 2002. He joined KTIV news in January 1999, as a morning and noon anchor.
Fort Dodge, Iowa is his native home and in 1986, he joined Fort Dodge High School where he graduated in 1990. Later on, he studied at Iowa Central Community College where he earned an associate of arts in journalism. In addition, he also graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in broadcast journalism, in 1995. After he had graduated, he was able to secure a job at KTIV as a general assignment reporter and weekend weather anchor.
He worked at the station for almost 2 years before he left the station for KTTC where he served as a morning and noon anchor in Rochester, Minnesota. Not long after, he relocated to Siouxland and rejoined KTIV while working on the morning and noon newscasts. Breen has been recognized repeatedly by the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association and the Iowa Broadcast News Association for the last 25 years for his reporting, anchoring, and producing skills.
In addition, he was recognized by the IBNA with its highest honor which is the Jack Shelley award in April 2018. The award was named for the Professor Emeritus of Journalism at Iowa State University and for the former News Director of WHO-TV. For his producing, writing, and anchoring skills, he was honored with Emmy awards in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2020 by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Furthermore, he was among the few journalists all around the country who were invited to the White House for an exclusive interview with President Barack Obama in June 2012.
