Candice King Biography

Candice King is an American Meteorologist working with WTVO-TV/WQRF-TV in Elgin, Illinois, where she serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist. She joins the station with over a decade of forecasting experience.

Candice King Career

King works with WTVO-TV where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist. King was raised on a dairy farm in Ridott, Illinois, and has always been interested in the weather. She states that until the movie “Twister” came out, she decided to turn her interest into a career.

Candice is a proud graduate of Highland Community College where she obtained an Associate of Science Degree in the year 2002. Later on, she went on to join Northern Illinois University in the year 2004 where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology in the year 2004.

The month of October year 2012 saw him being honored to receive the prestigious “Distinguished Alumni Award” from Highland Community College. Asides from this, she has also been nominated twice for an Emmy Award and once for the Illinois Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Award.

King also has a great passion for not only forecasting the weather but also teaching viewers about the weather. She states that she enjoys getting out into the community whether it is in schools, luncheon meetings, or having a conversation about the weather at the country fair.

For her, the most memorable weather event was the April 9th, 2015 Rochelle/Fairdale tornado. During that day, a deadly EF 4 tornado moved through Rochelle and nearly wiped the small town of Fairdale off the map. Asa cleanup for the communities and farmsteads continued in the months to follow, she knew the importance of making sure every home in the town of Fairdale had a working weather radio.

While there, she worked with members of the DeKalb County Long Term Recovery Team and purchased hundreds of First Alert NOAA weather radios to distribute to the residents of Fairdale later that Spring. She states that is proud of being the outreach she was and still is today.

King was also able to certify Eyewitness News as a Storm Supporter with the National Weather Service. Asides from this, she states that she not only takes pride in keeping viewers safe but also makes sure the staff at the station know where to go and what to do during times of severe weather. Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her family.
