Carl Parker Biography
Carl Parker is an American award-winning meteorologist working for The Weather Channel. He is serving as On-Camera Meteorologist, Hurricane Specialist, and Storm Specialist. He joined The Weather Channel as an On-Camera Meteorologist (OCM) in 1999.
Carl Parker Career
Parker is a meteorologist who was an OCM for his first 12 years with the network and then joined the Expert Team in 2011, where he can be found doing in-studio analysis for major weather events. He had also worked for other stations prior to joining The Weather Channel. For instance, he previously worked for KPRC-TV in Houston, TX, from 1995 to 1999, where he got personal as well as professional experience with hurricanes and tropical storms. While at KPRC, he also managed to enclose Hurricane Opal and Georges from the field and also chase Hurricane Bret on his own.
Before going to KPRC in Houston, Parker also spent some time working for WHIP-TV and WHTM-TV in Harrisburg, PA. While in WHTM-TV and WHP-TV, he enclosed the Superstorm of 1993, a freak of nature that clobbered the Eastern seaboard. His career started when he was hired by WTVA-TV in Tupelo, MS in 1991 while he was still in college. Parker attended the University of Maryland where he graduated. He also has a Graduate Certificate in Climate Adaptation from NC State University. Additionally, he also holds the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval.
Parker’s love and passion for the weather began when he was a five-year-old boy. He was captivated by everything that had to do with weather from the storms to sunny summers and snowstorms. He knew for sure that he would turn that childhood passion into a career. Parker has been a broadcast meteorologist for almost thirty years now and is still in awe of the drama and dynamism of a stormy atmosphere.
Parker enjoys spending extra time with his family whenever he is not working. Additionally, he also finds pleasure in playing basketball every week. Music is also another thing that he is passionate about for he has been a drummer since the mid-80s and plays electric guitar and bass. He’s also a huge fan of live music, from jazz to go-go to rock and more, and he has seen Rush 32 times.
