Carmen Rita Wong Family | Parents

Wong is the daughter of Peter Ting Litt “Papi” Wong, who is of Chinese descent, and a Dominican mother, Guadalupe “Lupe” Altagracia. Papi Wong was a mobster, drug runner, and Chinatown gangster who was abusive to her mother. Later, they divorced and Rita migrated to New Hampshire with her older brother, Italian-American stepfather, Marty. Marty and Lupe later had four little daughters. Ultimately, Papi Wong got arrested and lost contact with Rita for just about a decade.

Due to the divorce, her mother had resentment and would threaten, slap, and pinch Rita. Years later, Rita cut ties with her mom as a result of the trauma and abuse she faced up to her adulthood. When she was 31, her stepfather revealed that Papi Wong was not her biological father and she coincidentally found out that her mom was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. Ultimately, Rita would go on to serve as a caregiver to her ailing mother.

Unfortunately, her mother passed away in 2004 and Papi Wong passed away in 2022. Further, Papi Wong didn’t know that Rita was not his biological daughter. Rita documents all of these events in her memoir, Why Didn’t You Tell Me? Also, she reveals the identity of her biological father after undergoing a DNA test. She lost her brother, Alex on 22nd February 2020.
