MacNeil hosts weeknight prime-time news on CBC News Network from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Formerly, she anchored “The National” on Saturdays and was one of three permanent hosts of CBC News daily news program. She also hosted CBC News Network with Carole MacNeil on weekdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. from 2009 to 2016. In addition to that, she hosted CBC News: Sunday and CBC News: Sunday Night from 2002-2009. From 1994-1998, she served as an anchor of the Windsor evening news. MacNeil has hosted numerous live specials for CBC Television and CBC News: Sunday.

Furthermore, she hosted the Toronto edition of Canada Now before September 2002. In her journalism career journey, she has reported from Afghanistan, Europe, and also from the U.S. She has also sat down with some of the world’s most fascinating people including Benazir Bhutto, Madeleine Albright, Colin Powell, and Bishop Desmond Tutu.

Her journalism career began in the early 1990s anchoring local news programs in New Brunswick and Ontario. She later worked for CBC station CBAT-DT in Fredericton, New Brunswick from 1990 to 1994. While there, he served as a co-anchor for the evening news program and the host of a current affairs program. Later, she moved to Windsor, Ontario to work for CBET-DT, the local CBC station. There she became the anchor of the local evening newscast. In February 1996, she replaced David Kyle as the station’s late-night news anchor and became the anchor of both the evening and late-night newscasts.

After working there, for quite a time, she left Windsor station in August 1998 and joined CBC Newsworld as a co-anchor of the CBC morning news program with Ralph Benmergui. In October 2021, she announced that she would be departing from CBC News later that month. Her last broadcast on CBC Rundown with Carole MacNeil took place on October 26, 2021.
