Carolyn Clifford is an American Emmy Award-winning anchor/reporter working for WXYZ Detroit where she anchors the 4, 6, and 11 pm newscasts. Prior to joining WXYZ-TV, she was working in Pittsburgh PA at WPGH-TV as the anchor for the 10 p.m newscast.
Carolyn was inspired to join WXYZ-TV in Detroit since it reminds her of her childhood and where she was born. She is a proud graduate of Michigan State University, earning a degree in Broadcast Journalism.

She was originally hired at WXYZ to anchor weekends and as the station’s health reporter. Detroit started waking up with Carolyn when she joined the “7 Action News This Morning” team by May 2002. When she became the co-anchor of 7 Action News at 11 pm, she gave up her daily duties as Channel 7’s Health Reporter.
she spent 13 years informing Detroiters about the latest developments in medical science and the effects they have on our community. Carolyn was as well the host of the multiple Emmy-nominated half-hour health programs called “Healthy Living Sunday.” She as well worked at the CBS affiliates in both Orlando, FL and Lansing, MI, but got her real start in news at a small radio station in Lansing.
She was among a handful of journalists selected from across the country and the only news anchor in Michigan to be invited to the White House to interview President Obama about the Iran Nuclear Deal in 2015. It was one of the best moments of her career because not many journalists can say they were lucky enough to interview a sitting president one-on-one.
Additionally, memorable moments in broadcasting include interviewing Barbara Walters, Oprah Winfrey, and NBA legends Michael Jordan and Earvin “Magic” Johnson. She has covered everything from hurricanes in North Carolina to former South African President Nelson Mandela’s first visit to Michigan after he was freed from prison.

Carolyn Clifford Health Scare
After feeling ill experiencing headaches, stomach aches and trouble emptying the bladder Carolyn went to see the doctor. After some tests run by Dr. David Shukri, the chief of cardiology at St. John Providence Hospital, Carolyn ended up in the emergency room, the ultrasound had shown a fibroid tumor about the size of a football and several smaller ones were on the verge of destroying her kidneys and had to be removed immediately.
Surgery was performed and it went well, the doctor was able to successfully remove the fibroids and she was able to recover after about 6 weeks.
