Dave Rexroth is an American meteorologist working for WXYZ serving as the Chief meteorologist. He has been working for the station since joining in 2000.

Rexroth serves as the Chief Meteorologist at WXYZ every day during the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m., and 11 p.m. newscasts. In addition to this, he also prepares the latest weather forecasts and updates all across southeast Michigan. He previously worked for WFOR-TV in Miami where he served as the evening meteorologist for three years. During his time at WFOR-TV, he was able to enclose both Tropical Storm Harvey and Hurricane Irene.
Prior to his term at WFOR-TV, he previously worked for WRGB in Albany, New York where he also served as a meteorologist. His career as a broadcast meteorologist and journalist began at WOI, in Des Moines, Iowa. Rexroth has also spent some time doing the weather for national television shows including CBS News Saturday Morning and Good Morning America Sunday. He has also managed to win several awards ever since he started his career. For instance, he received MAB awards for “Best Weather.” In addition to that, he also won an Emmy award for the Lion King Special.
Rexroth went to Luther College in Iowa where he attained his bachelor’s degree. He, later on, went to the University of Chicago where he attained his master’s degree in Meteorology and studied under Ted Fujita of the famous F-Scale for tornado strength.

On July 4, because of a fireworks accident, Rexroth suffered an injury to his left eye. The incident caused the meteorologist in his left eye to lose vision. Following the collision, Rexroth lived in an Iowa City hospital. According to WXYZ, he underwent surgery to acquire a prosthetic eye for his eye. It is hoped that he will make a complete recovery. Rexroth sustained a serious injury to his left hand that left him in a cast for much of the fall. According to Rexroth’s Facebook page, he had Dr. Oz check out the eye’s progress when he visited the station in May.
