He attended Santa Monica High School where he earned his High School Diploma in General Education.. From there, he had to further his education. He joined Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. While there, he was a member of the school’s golf team prior to graduating, where he dropped out to pursue a pro golf career.

Daly started his radio career at College of the Desert. He interned at the former KCMJ FM (now KKUU) under the name “Kid Carson” and also interned for Jimmy Kimmel on the radio. Daly has worked with Guinness on local “Proposition 3-17” to make Saint Patrick’s Day an official holiday. His broadcasting career at the radio station in San Jose, California at KOME. After some time, he was given the 6-10 PM time slot at KOME’s sister station KROQ in Los Angeles.

He also worked at KROQ, and while there MTV recruited him to serve as a VJ during MTV’s summer beach house programming called “Motel California”.Daly was later hired as a permanent VJ at the end of the summer of 1997 and he moved to New York. After relocating to New York City, he started hosting MTV Live. From 1998 to 2003, he hosted MTV’S TRL. TRL was based on two previous shows, “Total Request” and “MTV Live”, both of which had also been hosted by Daly. He introduced the top 10 videos of the day and interviewed celebrity guests.

He began hosting a New Year’s Eve special for NBC, New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly from the beginning of 2003 to 2004. Daly started hosting and executive-producing NBC’s reality music competition The Voice in 2011. During his time there, he was watching blind auditions alongside the contestant’s family members. He became the sole host after social media correspondent Christina Milian departed the show.

Daly became the orange room anchor, and social media reporter on the Today show in September 2013. In addition to that, he served as a fill-in anchor for Willie Geist and the show’s weekend edition (Weekend Today). He is a founding partner along with Bam Margera, Jonathan B. Davis, and Jonathan Rifkind of an independent record label, 456 Enterprise & Entertainment, which released the “Viva La Bands” compilations.
