Her 12-part docu-series, “Who Killed Barbara Jean?” received an award. Further, it caused the Philadelphia Police to renew what had been a cold case of a killed 4-year-old girl. She has received two Mid-Atlantic Emmys and three Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards through her work at NBC10.
Before NBC10, she worked for the Philadelphia Inquirer as a reporter for 10 years. While with the Philadelphia Inquirer, she broadcasted the Camden and Philadelphia City Hall beats. Before that, she worked for the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, New York as a reporter. Vargas has worked in Paris freelance as a reporter for USA Today’s London bureau.
A first-generation American, she is fluent in English and Spanish. She serves as a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Investigative Reporters, and Editors. Also, she serves on the board of the Pen and Pencil Club as a governor.
