Courtney Crown Biography
Courtney Crown is an American Award-winning reporter working at FOX59/CBS4 since joining the station in April 2019. Crown returned to the Midwest after almost six years in Alabama working for WHNT News 19 in Huntsville and WTVY News 4 in Dothan.
Courtney Crown Career
Prior to joining FOX 59/CBS 4, Crown served as an investigative reporter for WHNT News 19. Her proudest moment so far is July 13, 2017, which is the same day prosecutors dropped burglary charges against a man misidentified in a 2016 case. The man’s mom asked WHNT News 19 for help to prove her son’s innocence.
Crown worked endless hours over a four-month period to persuade both the prosecution and defense they had the wrong man. One day earlier her record aired, the assistant district legal professional dropped the charges. Courtney worked to assist the man get his charges expunged from his once-clean record.
While in Dothan, AL Crown specifically covered the Florida Panhandle. During that time, she won two Florida Associated Press Awards for Best Series Reporting and Best Hard News Feature. For Best Series Reporting, Courtney spoke one-on-one with present and former Florida prison inmates about their participation in re-entry programs. For Best Hard News Feature, she teamed up with a former co-worker for coverage of bodies being exhumed at the infamous Dozier School for boys in Marianna, Florida.
In 2017, Crown won the Edward R. Murrow Award for a documentary on the Downtown Rescue Mission. Crown was also part of a team of three that produced a 30-minute special on the help and healing that happens within the walls of the mission. She attended Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast Communications and a minor in Public Relations.
