Dan Brown is an American meteorologist working for Western Mass News(WSHM-TV) as the morning meteorologist. He joined the station in September 2002 and has served the station for over 2 decades. Brown joined Salem State University after finishing his high school education. He later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. He furthered his studies at Mississippi State University, where he obtained his Master of Science degree in Geosciences with a concentration in Meteorology.

When he was 4 years old, weather forecasters predicted a Nor’easter to barrel up the coast in early February 1978. He recalls being excited while anticipating the prospects of a huge snowstorm. The storm, now known as the ‘Blizzard of ’78, sparked his interest in the weather, and he has been hooked ever since.
While growing up in the Boston region, Brown used to track everything from a feeble sea breeze to a potential blizzard. He also used to pretend to be a weatherman in his parents’ basement, where he established his “weather center.” After working in the “real world” for a few years, he realized he would not be happy professionally unless he was involved with the weather. Thus, he decided to return to school to study Meteorology.
Shortly after receiving his Master’s degree, Brown secured his first weather job at the ABC affiliate in Binghamton, New York. There, he worked as the weekend meteorologist for nine months before he moved to Springfield to join Western Mass. News.
