Dan Winters is an American News Anchor/reporter who has been working at 13 News as the co-anchor of the 4, 6, and 10 pm newscast. He joined the 13 News team on May 25, 2004, and is set to leave the station on May 25, 2022.

Winters is working at 13 News where he has been serving as the co-anchor of the 4, 6, and 10 pm newscast. He has lived in Marengo, Sioux City, Clarinda, Ames, and the Des Moines Metro, among other places. Winters began his broadcasting career at KMA Radio in Shenandoah, Iowa, when he was 16 years old. He worked full-time as a news anchor/editor for KPRC, a CBS Radio affiliate in Houston, TX, after graduating from high school.

Dan graduated from Iowa State University’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication with a bachelor’s degree. He worked as a reporter for KCCI-TV during college, covering the 2004 VEISHEA riot. Dan won “First Place TV Reporting” at the 2004 Hearst Journalism Awards Championship in San Francisco later that year.

During the 2008 Iowa Caucuses, Dan interviewed President Barack Obama and reported on his campaign. His award-winning investigations have resulted in changes in government policy. “I genuinely enjoy what I do, and I hope that shows when people watch,” Dan said. “I consider myself fortunate to be able to work with Erin, Ed, Keith, and all of the talented people behind the scenes every night.” Dan works with Youth Emergency Services and Shelter (YESS) and organizes charity fundraisers. He doesn’t let the fact that he’s a terrible golfer deter him from giving it his all.
