Dana Barker is an American Digital Meteorologist working at WLTZ First News since he joined the team in April 2012. He was working behind the scenes on WLTZ’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Barker holds a master of science in applied Meteorology from Mississippi State University and is the only on-air meteorologist in the Columbus market with a graduate degree in the discipline. He also had a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Columbus State University and is a 1997 graduate of Shaw High School, also in Columbus.

Barker started working behind the scene on WLTZ’s Facebook and Twitter pages, informing viewers of local conditions and breaking weather events. He first appeared on camera as a fill-in on WLTZ First News Today in December 2012. Then he was the weekend meteorologist for all Sunday news broadcasts from 2015 to 2018  and continues to fill in as needed for the other news programming throughout the week.

Despite his-camera work, he primarily keeps viewers informed digitally via his arms with various social media channels. Barker has grown up in Columbus. He had Barker use his intimate knowledge of local geography to deliver critical weather information on a “hyper-local” level.

Therefore outside the WLTZ, he was working full-time as a client software analyst for TSYS’s main campus in downtown Columbus. E is also working as the president of his local school football officiating association in the Auburn-Opelika area. He previously served as the public address announcer and in-arena music man for the Columbus Cottonmouths hockey team and Columbus Lions indoor football team and will reprise that role with the Columbus River Dragons hockey team beginning this fall.
